Feliz Ano Nuevo!

Feliz Ano Nuevo! Happy New Year! Bienvenida 2008!!
I hope you all have had a positive introduction to the New Year! I welcomed 2008 in the Atlantic Ocean! When the clock struck twelve I was swimming in the big blue sea with numerous other Peace Corps Volunteers! I think it is fitting given that we currently live on an island, water makes up maybe 70% of our body as well as 71% of the earth's surface. Regardless, I think I am going to make it a New Year's Eve tradition.
I haven't really made too many New Year's resolutions, but it is fun to make one that you know you are going to break. Ideally, I would like to stop going to the Colmado (corner store) without my family knowing, but something tells me I am going to want to buy a bag of chips and not share it with my four younger siblings and mother. It is not an every day habit, but I am guilty. As for more realistic New Year's resolutions, I will finish reading Eat, Pray, Love (it is an excellent book I recommend), I will not have butter on my bread in the morning (after today of course), I will be honest. So, honesty; that is a funny one and something you may all be thinking is a moral everyone should have and practice. However, when your Dominican community asks you what you did to bring in the New Year, they would think I was crazy if I told them I was in the Atlantic, so like any good volunteer, I told them I prayed. I know this is silly, but the ocean is kind of like my temple!
